Meu avô maestro Delê

Série de têmperas ovo feitas a partir de acervo fotográfico de meu avô, que era músico, compositor, maestro e fotógrafo.

​

Delê iniciou a carreira artística na década de 1930. Do final dos anos 1930 até 1946, quando ocorreu o fechamento dos cassinos no Brasil, sua orquestra tocou regularmente no Cassino da Pampulha, em Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Teve sua primeira composição gravada em 1940, o samba "Um Verdadeiro Amor", na voz de Murilo Caldas, pela Victor. Em 1942, o samba "Retratinho dele", com Pedro Caetano e Claudionor Cruz, foi gravado na Odeon por Dircinha Batista. Em 1945, teve dois sambas gravados: "Direito de Amar", com Artur Costa, lançado por Nelson Gonçalves, pela Victor, e "Eu pulo a janela", pelo grupo Quatro Ases e Um Curinga, na Odeon. Além desses exemplos,  há muitos outros registros e parcerias.

Eu – neta de Delê, artista plástica e também letrista e cantora – fiz essa homenagem-retrato que inclui 33 pinturas em pequeno formato a partir das fotos originais do acervo herdado.

A apropriação, nova configuração e montagem dessas memórias registradas e sobreviventes contam novas histórias, são novamente incorporadas e revividas  em uma simbiose pictórico-fotográfica.

My grandfather – The Conductor Delê

A series of egg temperas made from a collection of photographs  that belonged to my grandfather, who was a musician, a composer, a conductor and a photographer.

Delê started his career as an artist in the 1930’s. From then to 1946, when the casinos were permanently closed by law in Brazil, his orchestra played regularly at Pampulha Casino in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. One of his compositions, a samba “Um Verdadeiro Amor” (One True Love) was first recorded in 1940, by Murilo Caldas with the label Victor. In 1942 another samba, “Retratinho Dele” (His Little Photograph), with Pedro Caetano and Claudionor Cruz was recorded at Odeon by Dircinha Batista. In 1945, two of his sambas were recorded: “Direito de Amar” (The Right to Love) by Delê and Artur Costa was sung by Nelson Gonçalves with the label  Victor and “Eu Pulo a Janela” (I Jump out of the Window) by Grupo Quatro Ases and “Um Curinga” (A Joker) again with the label Odeon. Besides these recordings, there are many others, as well as various partners in songwriting.

I, Leonora – Delê’s granddaughter, artist and also songwriter and singer – have made this portrait-tribute that includes 33 small paintings inspired by the photographs I inherited from my grandfather’s collection.

The appropriation, the new configuration and displaying of these memories that were recorded and survived through time, tell new stories that are incorporated and experienced again, in a pictorial-photographic symbiosis.
