Retratos em pequeno formato circular.

A vontade de fazer esses pequenos retratos circulares surgiu pelo contato com os miniaturistas do renascimento, em especial o inglês da era Isabelina, Nicholas Hilliard (c. 1547 – enterrado em 7 de janeiro de 1619).

Os retratos eram realizados por encomenda para galanteios entre pretendentes e em memória dos familiares, o formato reduzido proporcionava o envio em cartas e o afeto de guardar as imagens em pequenas caixinhas, de segurá-las na palma da mão ou de carregá-las em pingentes de joias e anéis sobre o corpo.

Nicholas Hilliard retratou sua família e a si mesmo em uma coleção de minirretratos, criando um nicho familiar.

Árvore é uma genealogia fictícia e afetiva em que retrato a mim, minha família, amigos e ídolos. Está sempre em crescimento e em processo.

Portraits in a small, circular shape.

My desire to make these little circle-shaped portraits came from the contact with the Renaissance miniaturists, particularly English artist Nicholas Hilliard from the Elizabethan era (born circa 1547- buried in 1619).

The portraits were commissioned, intended for suitors in their courtship or in loving memory of  dear relatives – the small size allowed for posting , for being kept in small boxes or easily held in the palm of one’s hand or alternatively  to be worn as pendants and pieces of jewelry.

Nicholas Hilliard portrayed his family and himself in a collection of mini-portraits, creating a family niche.

Tree is a fictional and affective genealogy in which I portray myself, my family, friends and idols. It’s always growing and it’s a work in progress.
